  FAQ

1. Are the methods taught in this course acceptable in schools?

Most certainly! The methods are based on mathematical principles and the trainer himself taught these methods while he was teaching in primary schools.

2. Are all the topics from P1 to P6 covered in the course?

Most of the topics are covered. For the lower primary topics, we’ll share some useful teaching strategies and methods while more time is allocated to handling upper primary challenging word problems.

3. How will I benefit once I completed the course?

You will improve your ability to teach Mathematics. You will be able to deliver your lessons and explain challenging mathematics questions with clarity. Once students find your explanation clear, they will be more motivated to pay attention to your lesson. With the methods taught in the course, you will be able to help many students improve their mathematical skills and therefore, their grades. The course will also change your perspective in the teaching of Mathematics, as you can then see the ‘overall picture’ of mathematics teaching, learning, and the curriculum and examinations set in schools.

You will also learn how to plan your own teaching programme and how to teach systematically. The course tells you all the things you need to ensure your students perform well in Mathematics…how to get students to model the thinking process that generates the solution. If you are a parent, you will save a lot on tuition fees if you tutor your own child. No trainees is disappointed with our course so far.

4. Isn’t the course fee of $750 rather expensive?

If the course fee is broken down on an hourly basis, it works out to be $25 an hour. Trained teachers typically charge at least $35 an hour for home tuition. $40 to $50 an hour is not uncommon.

The skills you will learn in this course can certainly benefit your own children. The cost of this course can also be seen as an investment in 2 aspects. Firstly, this $750 will help you save a chain of tuition expenses that you have initially planned to splurge on your child’s education till PSLE (Pri 6).
Eg. Your child is in Pri 4 next year. He/she has 3 more years to PSLE.
On an average, monthly tuition fee (once a week, 2hrs each lesson
@$30 per hour) is typically $240. Upon completion in this course,
you should be skilled enough to conduct Math tuition for your child.

Here is the calculation of how much you will save:

Secondly, this $750 can help you increase your income by conducting private tuition. Even at the rate of $25 per hour, you will earn $200 on top of the savings
illustrated above.

In this course, we have met tutors or private teachers who are undoubtedly passionate in teaching and highly responsible in their students’ results. Some of them joined our courses to improve in their own teaching effectiveness and to stay parallel with the latest MOE syllabus. However, there is a group of them who understands the importance of having a relevant certification to command a higher tuition rate in the market.

Eg. Your current rate is $15 per hour.
After this course, with the relevant certification and skills, you can charge
$20 ~ 25 per hour. For easy calculation, we will take $22.50 as your new
hourly rate.

Here is the calculation of how much more you will earn:

When can you breakeven this investment?

If you are a full time tutor with 10 students, you can earn back that $750 within 1.5 months.
If you are a part time tutor with 4 students, you can earn back that $750 within 3.5 months.

Every responsible teacher wants his/her students to achieve academic progress.
No responsible teacher will like to be in a situation where he/she cannot solve
difficult Math problem sums, and let alone failure to explain to him/her.

Look out for our periodical early bird discounts during the initial stage of advertising and promotion for new intakes. If you manage to catch our periodical early bird discounts, your course fee shall be lowered by $50 to $100, depending on the nature of the discount.

5. Do you have a shorter Math Teaching course? I find 10 weeks too long.

We have both the 10-week and the 4-week course.

In the 10-week course, we cover some interesting teaching strategies for the lower primary level, educational psychology, techniques of motivation and other areas relevant to the effective teaching of Mathematics. More time is given to the trainees to try working out the challenging word problems. Much time in the 10-week course is devoted to the teaching of upper primary level Mathematics.

The 4-week course is designed for trainees who have problems committing to a 10-week course but yet would like to learn the skill of teaching the upper primary level Mathematics. The important P5 and P6 topics are covered in detail: Tough fraction, ratio, percentage, speed and circle problems, as well as geometry and non-routine problems. Trainees who have completed this course will be much better in teaching students than before. The strategies taught in the 4-weeks are truly beneficial for students taking their PSLE. Educational psychology, techniques of motivation and other non-mathematical topics
are not covered in this course.

6. Are the methods taught in the course really effective? Are there any struggling students who did not improve using your methods

Yes, the methods are effective! These methods are tried, tested and proven successful in helping students! The trainer has received many testimonials from parents who have seen their children’s grades improve.

When students did not improve, the trainer is always keen to find out the reason. After much research, he found that those who did not improve are students who are too habitualised in their old methods of working and did not apply the methods taught to them. Once they are determined to use the techniques, their grades improved greatly. Some students reflected that they never knew they could do well in Mathematics until they faithfully used our methods!
